National Freedom Day – February 1, 2022

By Janiyah Thomas,  Black Media Affairs Coordinator, RNC

“Today we honor those courageous Republican Members of Congress and President that abolished slavery in America 157 years ago. National Freedom Day commemorates the passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln on February 1, 1865. The Republican Party has always been the party of freedom and opportunity for Black Americans, and we are proud of our legacy as we begin the celebration of Black History Month.” – Paris Dennard, RNC National Spokesperson and Director of Black Media Affairs

National Freedom Day 2022

National Freedom Day honors Republican President Abraham Lincoln signing the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery.

The Republican Party is the freedom and opportunity party.

    • The majority of House Democrats (69%) voted AGAINST the 13th Amendment.

Bottom line: Democrats have always been on the wrong side of freedom. Democrats opposed abolition, supported segregation, wrote the 1994 Crime Bill, blocked parental choice in education, and pushed discriminatory vaccine mandates. The Democrats have shown they are not interested in truly being the champion for Black communities.
